The Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace are preparing for the ordination of Bishop Chico

In the days prior to the episcopal ordination of Bishop Sebastián Chico Martínez, auxiliary Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Cartagena, different interventions are being carried out so that the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace are ready for this diocesan celebration.

The Bishop of Cartagena, Msgr. José Manuel Lorca, has commissioned the renovation of the galas that the balconies of the Episcopal Palace will wear and that will replace the old ones.

Several parishioners of the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption of Molina de Segura, voluntarily and under the guidelines of Encarnita Fernández Ripoll, have been commissioned to make the new draperies that will be on Saturday next the balconies of the first floor of the main facade.

For this work they have used about fifty meters of garnet velvet with gold trimmings sewn by hand as fringes, chevrons and tassels of different sizes.

In addition, other trousseau works have also been developed for the occasion.

On the staircase of the main courtyard, which is one of the areas that can be visited from the Episcopal Palace, changes can also be seen.

In the next few days a carpet will cover the 66 marble steps, a type of garment that is only installed when a new bishop is appointed in the Diocese.

In terms of lighting, the bulbs of the large lamp that illuminates this area have been renovated by LED technology, as well as the lanterns of the patio arcades.

In addition, plants and flowers adorn every corner.

The Cathedral will also show its best finery next May 11th.

The altar platform has been restored with the installation of new wood covered with carpet in the same red color as the previous one.

Inside the presbytery, the platform beneath the chair has also been renovated and the carpet on which Bishop Sebastián Chico prostrates himself, during the litany of the saints, will also be a premiere and the same material as the one on the altar.

Likewise, there has been an extraordinary cleaning of some elements such as the bars of the presbytery and choir, along with the wooden seating.

Being a significant event in the Diocese of Cartagena, next Friday the bells of the Cathedral will ring twice.

At 1:05 p.m. and at 8:08 p.m., they will sound for five minutes to announce the episcopal ordination of Bishop Sebastián Chico, as well as when special solemnities such as the Immaculate Conception or Corpus Christi are celebrated, or on the descent of the Virgin of the Fuensanta.
